LOL! There's An Actual Civil War Breaking Out On The Far Right

Subscribe & laugh at the fascists!

Welp! That was kind of predictable. Actually, it was extremely predictable. Elon Musk has officially worn out his welcome among the high priests of MAGAland and now they’ve declared war on him:

In an escalation of discontent among the highest-profile far-right followers of Donald Trump, his former adviser Steve Bannon has called Trump’s newest favorite, Elon Musk, “racist” and a “truly evil guy”, pledging to “take this guy down” and kick him out of the Maga movement.

Laura Loomer and a bunch of MAGA talking heads are furious with Musk and his fellow tech bro oligarchs and, darn it!, they’re just not going to take it anymore!

I, for one, am quite giddy about the whole thing. It’s quite literally what I’ve been hoping for. Open warfare between factions on the right. The nastier, the better. I want them to go full scorched earth on each other and there‘s a very good chance I will get my wish because this is for all the marbles. Whoever wins gets to control Trump which means they get to control the entire country. There will be no half-measures here.

I know it gets used to death but, come on, what scene better suits the moment?

If you missed the drama and you’re not sure why the worst people in the world are squabbling, it ostensibly has to do with H-1B visas and how the tech bros support them and MAGAland does not.

H-1B visas allow tech companies to hire foreign workers at a fraction of the cost of American workers and abuse the shit out of them. After all, if the workers complain, the companies will just yank their visas and send them back, usually to a country with crushing poverty. It’s a form of indentured servitude and since most tech bros aspire to be feudal lords, they love this.

MAGAland hates H-1B visas because they oppose all forms of immigration, legal or otherwise. ‘Murika first! Musk told them to go fuck themselves and MAGAland got deeply offended. Wasn’t Musk supposed to be their apartheid champion? What the actual fuck, dude?!

But this fight isn’t really about H-1B visas. Not really. It’s about who controls Trump, the puppet king, and whose vision of America comes to pass. Not all flavors of fascism are the same. If they were, the KKK and neo-Nazis would be good buddies. Usually, they hate each other.

Fascists fighting make Ogre laugh!

The funny thing here is that Steve Bannon, THAT Steve Bannon, really is going all in on calling Musk and the other tech bros racist:

Bannon further widened his aim to attack Musk’s fellow tech giants Peter Thiel and David Sacks for having South African heritage.

“He [Musk] should go back to South Africa,” Bannon said. “Why do we have South Africans, the most racist people on earth, white South Africans, we have them making any comments at all on what goes on in the United States?”

It’s impossible to overstate how deeply racist Steve Bannon is. One time, just for fun, I wrote an article pairing comments from Breitbart, Steve Bannon’s cesspool, The Blaze, Glenn Beck’s open sewer, and The Daily Stormer, a literal neo-Nazi website. I challenged readers to tell me which comments came from the neo-Nazis.

No one could. There was no difference. That’s who Steve Bannon is.

So when this motherfucker calls Elon Musk a racist, he’s not wrong but, bitch, please. That’s like Bill Cosby being outraged that Donald Trump sexually assaulted women. Maybe sit this one out, buddy. Disingenous doesn’t really cover it.

But I want them to fight. Make it loud and ugly and keep it going as long as possible. The longer they’re tearing at each other, the less time and energy they have to destroy everything else. Fascists always end up turning on each other because no one is ever pure enough for them. Usually, they last a little longer than this but who am I to complain?

The irony of this is that what Bannon is really mad about is that Musk walked in and took over a movement Bannon spent years building. Which is exactly what Trump and Bannon did to the Republican establishment a decade ago. The GOP didn’t really understand the monster it had built and lost control of it.

Now the same thing has happened to Bannon. He, perhaps, didn’t really understand Trump. Or perhaps he thought he could manipulate him long enough until America was the white nationalist police state of his dreams. But Trump has no core ideology. He believes in nothing but money and power. Literally nothing else.1

This is why Trump always bows and scrapes before dictators. Not because he believes in their fascist ideology but because of the power that ideology grants them. There is not a single dictator Trump does not love, regardless of how they run their country. Vladimir Putin, Viktor Orban, Xi Jinping, it’s irrelevant. He craves their approval and their wealth and their absolute power. Elon Musk does not rule a nation but he’s the richest man in the world and his power is beyond that of most heads of state. Trump cannot help but crave Musk’s approval in hopes he will be lifted up to those lofty heights.

Steve Bannon has nothing to offer to compare to that.

This is why if I had to make a bet…I’d say Bannon is going to lose here. Musk, like Trump, does not believe in MAGA at all. He believes in what will make him richer and more powerful. That’s it. I mean, Musk is a racist piece of shit to be sure. He’s a libertarian which means he believes “some people” are inherently better than others. “Some people,” of course, meaning “heterosexual white men.”

But, really, it’s all about Musk and what he wants, just like Trump. They both understand that Republican voters are easy to manipulate and that racism is just a tool to rile up the rubes. They may not like Those People but they don’t really care about making America white again. It makes for a good distraction, of course, but if it gets in the way of making money? Bannon’s white nationalism is going to lose every single time.

Bannon’s only real avenue here is to convince Trump that Musk is a personal threat to him. Trump is a well-documented narcissist who, like all dictators and wannabes, cannot tolerate competing power centers. This is why Trump is trying to consolidate all of the power of the executive branch in the Oval Office. There can be no independence in an autocracy.

It’s why he wants the military to be filled with boot-licking loyalists. It’s why he wants Congress to be nothing more than a rubber stamp. It’s why he will go after the courts next. I promise you, Trump plans to start firing judges despite the fact it’s absolutely illegal for him to do so.

This is the playbook of all autocrats.

But Musk has so much power, he practically has his own gravity. And he’s been flaunting it nonstop since the election. So much so that Trump has been “joking” that he’s tired of Musk being around all the time. Except Trump doesn’t have a sense of humor and he doesn’t joke. Sooner or later, he’s going to get tired of Musk the co-president. Or Musk will make demands of Trump like he’s a flunky and Trump will remember that he’s the President of the United States, making him the most powerful man in the world, regardless of how much money Elon Musk has. Once that dynamic shifts, it will be difficult, if not impossible, for Musk to regain the control he currently has.

And then the real fight begins because the world’s richest man will not tolerate being cut off from what he feels belongs to him. Bannon may not win this fight, but it’s entirely possible Musk will end up in a brawl with Trump anyway because the White House cannot contain both of their egos. There simply isn’t room and at the end of the day, Trump is president. Musk is not.

The Washington Post Is Dying. Boo. Fucking. Hoo.

The legacy media has abandoned us in favor of sucking up to oligarchs and fascism. Find voices you trust (other than me) and subscribe where you can. Independent voices like the Opinionated Ogre will be needed in the coming days and we will require your support. This newsletter is free but for $5 a month or just $50 a year, you can help keep the lights on.

Eat The Rich. Fuck The Legacy Press.

It breaks my heart1 to report that the Washington Post is facing the consequences of sucking up to fascism. It’s a sad sad2 day when a pillar of the legacy press is rendered a shadow of its former self due to decisions made by management:

Over the last four years, web traffic has cratered. According to internal data shared with Semafor in recent weeks, the Post’s daily traffic last year reached a nadir of just a quarter of what it was at its peak in January 2021. That month, the Post had around 22.5 million daily active users. But by the middle of 2024, its daily users hovered around 2.5-3 million daily users.

Now, that’s not the most accurate comparison. I’m trying to remember…did something significant happen in January of 2021 that might have had tens of millions of people checking the news on a daily, if not hourly, basis?

It might be the exact same thing the legacy press then spent the next four years helping the right obliterate from the public’s consciousness. What’s a little insurrection and a historic second impeachment between friends, right? Even a presidential election is not going to draw the same kind of traffic as that.

But 2.5-3 million a day still sounds awfully low, even on its own. One wonders if that might have anything to do with the past decade of the press sanewashing Trump? And then spending four years openly undermining Joe Biden in increasingly hysterical and misleading ways?

Not for nothing, when the Washington Post writes more articles about Joe Biden’s age in 3 days than it did about Donald Trump’s 34 felony convictions in 6 months, the only conclusion is that they want Donald Trump back in power.3 For a paper with the slogan, “Democracy Dies In Darkness,” that’s impossible to reconcile.

The final straw came when the paper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, spiked the paper’s endorsement of Harris. Hundreds of thousands of subscribers canceled and they do not appear to be coming back.4 And why would they? Why would they return to a paper so obviously working on behalf of an incoming fascist regime?

Did you know the Opinionated Ogre has a weekly podcast? It’s true! New episodes every Thursday! Catch the latest episode here:

Listen to the Ogre roar!

If that didn’t seal the deal, Bezos cuddling up with Trump, bribing him with donating a million dollars, and the paper killing an editorial cartoon from Ann Telnaes for the first time because it accurately showed Bezos doing exactly that? Well, there are ways to tell your audience to fuck off and then there are REALLY over the top ways to do it. This might be the most obnoxious and least subtle I’ve seen since Elon Musk literally told advertisers to go fuck themselves.

So what happens now? Well, there are a few outcomes I can see here:

  1. Bezos can sell the paper and wash his hands of the whole thing. It’s clearly become a financial and, more importantly, political liability. As long as the paper does even basic reporting on the coming Trump crime wave, Jeff Bezos is exposed.

There are three paths from here:

    1. Bezos sells the paper to a responsible owner who will push the paper to do real journalism instead of cowering before Trump. This is incredibly unlikely.

    2. Bezos sells the paper to a hedge fund or some kind of conglomerate whose only interest is profit. The paper will try to be all things to all people and eventually be sold off for spare parts until it’s just a shell of its former self, much like Newsweek and CNN. This is very possible but not as likely as…

    3. Bezos sells the Washington Post to one of Trump’s billionaire backers. Miriam Adelson. Elon Musk. Peter Theil. There are over a dozen of them and more. All of whom will turn the Washington Post into a propaganda organ for the Trump regime. This is a recurring theme in autocracies. Russia. Hungary. Turkey. Independent media is swallowed up by the state and its wealthy enablers. Then the line between news and propaganda disappears. Everything becomes Fox News all the time.

  2. Bezos can decide to hold on to the Washington Post, because, let’s be honest, it costs him pennies of his actual wealth. Instead of selling it to another billionaire to turn into a propaganda outlet, Bezos does it himself as a show of fealty. Trump loves nothing more than to have people grovel before him in submission. It feeds his insatiable ego.

In this second scenario, it won’t actually matter if those hundreds of thousands of subscribers come back or if hundreds of thousands more leave. WaPo will have an audience of one and the investment will be worth the billions in government contracts Bezos will save by bending the knee as loudly as possible. This is the calculation the tech oligarchs have been making for the last couple of years.

Look at how hard Mark Zuckerberg is slobbering over Trump’s jackboots. He’s one of the richest men in the world and he’s humiliating himself on an almost daily basis trying to replicate Elon Musk’s success in wooing MAGAland. Do not be surprised when he starts shitposting about how stupid libtard Facebook users are later this year.

I’ll get into this some other time but the tech bros tried to sell themselves as progressive champions and when that didn’t work, they took off their masks to reveal the fascist libertarian scumbags underneath.

So do I feel bad for the reporters trapped at a dying paper? Yeah, I guess so. It’s not easy to watch everything you’ve worked for be perverted because of greed. Been there, done that. Still have the scars. But it is what it is and the Washington Post is no longer working on behalf of the public. It hasn’t been for a long time. Watching it die a slow death is not filling me with anything but impatience. Just hurry the fuck up and die already.

Wildfires Can Contaminate Drinking Water Systems With Harmful Chemicals

The Conversation logoHere’s What Los Angeles Needs To Know

The wildfires in the Los Angeles area have destroyed more than 10,000 structures, many of them homes, and firefighters continue to battle the infernos. Parts of Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena and other California communities are now unrecognizable.

As evacuation orders are lifted, safe drinking water should be top of mind for those residents able to return to their homes.

What many people don’t realize is the extent to which their community drinking water systems can be damaged by fire, how their water is affected and what they can do about it.

As an environmental engineer, I work with communities affected by wildfires and other disasters. Over the years, my team and I have been called in to help after some of the most destructive wildfires in U.S. history. In some cases, we have advised state and local officials from afar.

Several local water systems in the Los Angeles area have begun issuing warnings about not using the potentially unsafe drinking water. Here’s what residents in the area, and anyone else living near where a wildfire burns, need to know.

How Fires Can Make Water Unsafe

Fires can make drinking water, and the water pipes and tanks themselves, unsafe. This occurs for a number of reasons.

One cause is when high water use from firefighting drains the water system.

Two firefighters in reflective suits and helmets spray water onto massive flames.
Battling fires requires vast quantities of water, and depleted water lines can lead to potential contamination risks. Photo by Pixabay via Pexels

Water systems are not designed to fight wildfires. Damaged and destroyed structures also prompt uncontrolled water leaks. Power loss also prevents water from being replenished fast enough into the draining water systems. Combined, these factors can depressurize the water system, leaving no water available.

When water is depleted, the system is vulnerable to chemical contamination.

Drinking water contamination can also come from the air and from damage to water system infrastructure. Heat can partially melt plastic pipes and water meters, releasing chemicals; smoke can be sucked into water systems; and breaks in the water infrastructure can introduce contamination.

An illustration shows damage to the systems themselves.
Some common sources of water contamination during fires include water use depressurizing water systems, plastic heating up and smoke pulled into systems.

A host of cancer-causing chemicals have been found in damaged water systems after wildfires. Sometimes these chemicals, such as benzene, can cause someone to become immediately ill if they drink or use the water. Symptoms can include nausea, headaches and rashes.

These chemicals stick to the infrastructure surfaces and can even penetrate some plastic pipes and gaskets. Removing them can take days to months. Some plastics can adsorb chemicals like a sponge and release them into clean drinking water slowly, making that water unsafe for long periods of time.

How Communities Can Reduce The Risk

Residents and businesses should pay attention to announcements from their drinking water provider and health officials about water safety.

Safety can be determined through proper chemical testing. Fortunately, the first-ever guide for water systems to respond to and recover from fires was published in 2024. Property owners can find more information from groups like our research team at Purdue University.

When To Test And Treat Your Own Water

When it comes to testing home drinking water, caution is needed.

After the 2023 wildfires in Maui, Hawaii, and the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California, I met with many households who spent hundreds to thousands of dollars to hire companies to conduct their own water testing. However, many of the results turned out to be irrelevant. In some cases:

  • Residents were charged for water analysis even though their samples were improperly handled.
  • The potentially contaminated water was dumped out of plumbing before a sample was collected.
  • Water samples were not screened for the correct fire-related chemicals.
  • Samples were not collected from the right locations or enough locations in the home.

Treating water is not advised until the levels of contamination are known. Water systems in the area have issued such warnings.

A student tests water in a sink.
Purdue University graduate student Paula Coelho conducts tests for water quality. Home drinking water testing can be helpful once the water provider has confirmed that the water being delivered is now safe. Photo: Andrew Whelton, Purdue University, CC BY-ND

Residents should also be aware that home water treatment devices are not certified to make extremely contaminated water safe.

To help property owners make the best decisions, water utilities need to rapidly test and share with the public what chemicals are present in their water systems. Once that testing has been done and the risks are known, property owners may want to commission their own testing if their plumbing is damaged or if contaminated water has flowed in.

Water Systems Can Recover

It can be frustrating waiting for information, but immediately after fires it’s often unsafe for water officials to enter the affected areas to begin testing.

As history has shown, safe water can be restored. Assistance from experts who have helped others respond can expedite the recovery. In my experience, communities that recover rapidly and stronger are those where they work together and support one another. The Conversation

Rewriting the Success Sequence?

You've probably heard about the "success sequence," the idea that if young people do the right stuff in the right order-- finish school, get a job, get married, have a kid-- they are less likely to end up poor.

Conservatives had pushed this concept for a while, including some fairly overblown sales jobs, like the Brookings article "Follow these three rules and you will join the middle class!." The data for the success sequence are pretty spotty, and one has to wonder if maybe its fans have things backwards; maybe being middle or upper class increases the likelihood that you'll follow the sequence.

Nevertheless, conservatives believed in the success sequence enough that Rick Hess at the American Enterprise Institute wondered if maybe schools shouldn't be teaching students to follow it, the better to improve their future prospects. I disagreed at the time, But now it seems that many folks on the right want to... revisit the terms of the success sequence.

The argument has been bubbling up for a while in MAGA-land. Jay Greene and Lindsey Burke at the Heritage Society argued the country needs more babies, and the problem is that too many women are going to college and postponing baby-making. Joy Pullman at The Federalist argues that to get healthier Americans, we should get women to quit their jobs (so they can stay home and cook healthy stuff for their children). In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis wants to install Scott Yenor as a board member at the University of West Florida. This is a guy who has labeled “independent women” as “medicated, meddlesome and quarrelsome” and decried colleges and universities as "the citadels of our gynecocracy”

“If we want a great nation, we should be preparing young women to become mothers,” Yenor said, "not finding every reason for young women to delay motherhood until they are established in a career or sufficiently independent.”

So you see, the problem is that women are actually trying to follow the success sequence by getting an education, then a job, before they get married and baby up.

Turns out that the success sequence is a Bad Thing when practiced by certain people, specifically certain people who ought to busy birthing, rearing, and feeding babies.

One good way to make this possible would be to make it possible for a working man to support his family with his wages, but somehow none of these "a woman's work is to make babies and sammiches" folks is advocating for, say, a hike in minimum wage. Just advocating for women to be regressively focused on making babies and sammiches.

But there's something else to note here. These are the same folks who want to privatize education, to make it every person's responsibility to get the education that best fits their station in life, without any support from the government. And when you put together "Get the education that fits what your kid needs" and "You don't need any education except maybe learning some cooking, Missy," you get a system that aims only to educate young men. You ladies just need how to cook a nice meal while you bat your eyes and try to land yourself a successful man who can get you properly impregnated.

I think it's pretty clear that for one part of the ed reform crowd, reforming education means making sure that women get less of it. It's not unlike the focus in some states on making sure that teenagers are "free" to ditch school and get out into the work force, unobstructed by any of those darn child labor laws

The underlying assumption is that for some people to take their proper place in society, education is unnecessary, even counter-productive. Success, it turns out, is only a worthy aspiration for Certain People.

Brown People Shocked, SHOCKED!, To Discover Racist Republicans Despise Brown People

One of the first things I said after the election in which an awful lot of non-white people voted for a literal white nationalist and his openly white nationalist platform was that a lot of leopards were going to be eating a lot of faces. Trump isn’t even in office yet and them leopards is getting so very fat. How do they have time to scarf down all those faces?! Nom nom nom.

Normally, I would feel at least a LITTLE bad about that sort of thing but…nah. Fuck y’all. You capered for white trash, hoping they would only hurt the OTHER brown folk and leave you alone. You thought that maybe if you groveled hard enough, they would accept you into the tribe and make you one of them. Safe from white supremacy at last.

We told you that shit wasn’t going to work. The key word in “white nationalist” is “WHITE” and you ain’t it. But you didn’t listen. As predicted, the racism is flowing thick and heavy and Ossiana Tepfenhart has been all over it:

Did anyone else notice how many conservative Indian voters are appalled by the latest actions of the GOP? Now that they’re seeing Republican voters casting aspersions toward their race, they’re upset.

The sudden shakeup all started when Trump reneged on his promise to get rid of H-1B visas. White conservatives quickly went into an uproar, accusing the GOP of devaluing white American workers.

Shannon and I talked about the H-1B visa brawl on this week’s podcast. I’m still catching up on the news from the last couple of weeks after taking some time off but this was the least surprising thing that’s happened so far.

Listen to a new episode of the Opinionated Ogre Podcast every Thursday! Catch the latest episode here:

Ep. 31: Terrorists, Idiots, & Porn!

The Republican Party cultivated a base of rabid racists back in the 60s. Reagan was practically a Neo-Confederate. W. Bush was a theocratic Neo-Crusader. Trump has been a fan of Hitler since long before he thought politics would be a fun way to scam the public out of billions. The Tea Party was explicitly about maintaining white supremacy. The alt-right is explicitly about white nationalism. MAGA is just a mindless scream of white rage.

Elon Musk and his fellow tech bro oligarchs clearly do not understand this because they do not live in the real world. They live in a bubble where everyone tells them what they want to hear at all times. That’s how you end up with Musk, the current owner of the Republican Party, saying something as laughably stupid as the “hateful, unrepentant racists” in the GOP are “contemptible fools [who] must be removed from the Republican Party, root and stem.”

So…Musk wants to remove…90% of the GOP’s base? I mean, OK? But good luck winning an election after that.

Oh yeah yeah yeah…not all Republicans are racist. Fuck off. Trump ran the most explicitly racist campaign since George Wallace screamed about segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever. Trump voters don’t get to pretend they didn’t notice. They absolutely fucking did. What so many of the non-white Trump voters told themselves was that the racism wasn’t directed at THEM. It was only directed at those OTHER brown people.

It’s been a major phenomenon on Reddit and TikTok. On Reddit’s r/LeopardsAteMyFace, Indian immigrants who benefit from H-1B visas are now beginning to wonder if they sided with the bad guys.

Tepfenhart pulled that from Reddit and it’s just…mwah! Chef’s kiss. Of course there are no consequences for far-right influencers spewing hate speech and lies. That is, quite literally, the only thing the far right knows how to do. If they were to speak the truth, they would burst into flames. Without disinformation, the modern right ceases to exist.

But Sidharth, and all of those like him, knew this, even if they won’t cop to it. They assumed that if they licked the boots of their oppressors and joined in the lynchings of other brown people, they would be welcomed with open arms.

Look at all of the Latinos who voted for Trump because they hate undocumented immigrants. The vast majority of them are related to some of those awful awful undocumented or are the descendants of them. But, you know, “I got mine, fuck you,” right? What could be more white and Republican than that?

But that doesn’t work if you’re not actually white. This is the thing performative whiteness fails to understand. You cannot stop being the thing they hate. They will always hate you.

History says otherwise, though, right? The Irish and Italians and Germans used to be considered “not white” and now look at them! They’re some of the most racist parts of the MAGA movement! But while some Latinos can pass as white, a whole lot of them cannot. The same goes for Indians and Asians and Blacks etc. etc. They can polish the boots of fascists to a brilliant shine with their tongue but they’re never going to be anything but tokens and here’s a saying I haven’t heard before but, fuck me, it really captures the moment:

There’s a reason why activists always warn others that “tokens always get spent.” - Ossiana Tepfenhart

“Tokens always get spent.” Oh yeah. MAGA got the votes of the useful idiots and now they’re tossing them aside. They don’t need, and they certainly do not want, Indian-Americans in their party. At the same time, Latinos are about to discover that, to a white nationalist, there is no difference between a “good” Latino and a “bad” one. They’re all a problem that needs a solution. A…final solution, if you will. America can’t be great again until it’s white again1 and that only happens when the Latinos are gone. Not some of the Latinos. ALL of the Latinos. Except maybe a few can stick around to clean toilets and pick fruit in the fields. Maybe.

So when the immigration raids start and legal immigrants and US citizens start getting scooped up, watch for the shock and horror of Latinos who voted for Trump. They’ll be the ones who swore he would only go after the “bad” immigrants, not good law-abiding ones.

But, of course, they broke the only law that counts: The law of white nationalism. They were brown in a country run by literal Nazis.

If only someone had warned them that the Republican Party hates brown people. If only.

Oh, well. I’m going to be over here buttering my popcorn with the salty tears of Trump voters who thought only the people they hated would suffer. Don’t ask me to shed a single tear for their plight. This is what they voted for. They fucked around and now they’re going to find out.

There are 297 days until the first Blue Wave and it starts in Virginia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

I hope you feel better informed about the world and ready to kick fascists in the teeth to protect it. This newsletter exists because of you, so please consider becoming a supporting subscriber today for only $5 a month or just $50 a year. Thank you for everything!

This Is What State Takeover Of The Church Looks Like

You will recall that Louisiana has declared that every school room must display the Ten Commandments. That law took effect over the winter break.

Which version of the Ten Commandments, you may ask. And indeed you should. Depending on your faith, you may be familiar with one of three versions. The Bible itself gives about three and a half versions of the decalogue.

So "post the Ten Commandments" is not a simple and direct order. Some clarification is needed.

Not just guidance, but four versions of the poster that schools should put up (images below).

One uses the decalogue as a centerpiece under the heading "The House of Representatives and the Lawgivers and includes two equally-weighted images--one of Moses and one of Speaker Mike Johnson. Another equates The Lawgivers with the Supreme Court. Another argues for "Religion's Role in American Public Education" and the last one offers the Ten Commandments amongst four cases instrumental in eroding the wall between church and state.

And all include the state-approved version of the Ten Commandments.

This is what it looks like when the state takes command of religion. This is what it looks like when the state tells people of faith how best to understand central pieces of their faith ("Yeah, Moses was pretty much like the Speaker of the House in the United States in the 2020s"). This is what it looks like when the state shoulders pastors aside and says, "Hey, let me go ahead and explain that for you."

Yes, this is also what it looks like when the state violates the First Amendment in order to elevate one favored religious tradition over all others (including many nominally of the same religion, because this is an example of the weird far right Old Testament focused Christianity-without-Christ that stalks far right sanctuaries these days, but that's a discussion for another time). This is what state-inflicted religion looks like.

(For what it's worth, this is also what bad state-sponsored graphic design looks like.)

Absolutely nobody should be in favor of this. It's a violation of the First Amendment doe the state to impose and promote a particular religion on students. It's also a violation for the state to take command of the church and force the state's version of a religion as the One True Form. That's why a federal judge has already said the law is unConstitutional

A suit challenging the law is already under way. May the court strike this abomination down hard.

In the meantime, take comfort in knowing that these "posters" are required to be at least 11" x 14"-- the size of a sheet of a legal pad-- which will make the cluttered print tiny and easily ignored by students.
